Tuesday August 4 game and practices for 6 PM cancelled due to lightning or thunder being seen or heard within 1/2 hour of game time.
The 7pm and 8pm games are tentative, depending on weather conditions. If lightning or thunder occurs one half hour prior to game time the game will be cancelled.
Examples: if the last sighting of lightning or sound of thunder occurs between 6:30PM and 7PM the 7PM game will be cancelled. If the last sighting of lightening or sound of thunder occurs at 7:15PM the 8PM would still be played, unless additional lightning or thunder occurs after 7:30PM
Note: Coaches have the right to cancel practices regardless of above guidelines! Quinndale Council will make the decision regarding cancellation of all games based on above policy. This guideline is in line with the city of Hamilton Lightning policy as follows:
Emergency Action Plan for Lightning Storms City Of Hamilton - Sports Fields General Information
Lightning’s behaviour is random and unpredictable. Preparedness and quick response is the best defence towards the lightning hazard.
Lightning Safety Program for City of Hamilton Athletic Fields
At the first signs of lightning or thunder, leave the field. Go to your vehicle and take shelter there with the windows rolled up. ("If you can hear it (thunder), Clear It (suspend activities)." AVOID the rain and sun shelters and the dugout areas. These are not safe from lightning. AVOID going underneath trees. Trees "attract" lightning. AVOID metal fences, gates, and tall light poles and power poles.
Wait 30 minutes after the last observed lightning or thunder before you leave shelter. Game officials will signal a resumption of activities.
